The votes are in and the staff at Fi-Med has made its book selection, Simple Solutions: Harness the Power of Passion and Simplicity to Get Results, by Thomas Schmitt and Arnold Perl.

If anyone has read or is currently reading this book, feel free to post your comments here. You don’t have to work at Fi-Med to join in our discussion. For those of you who are in the Fi-Med book club, we encourage you to post your thoughts and comments as you go. Your insights may help someone who is struggling with a particular section, or it may motivate someone to check out what you are referencing to. Below is a brief overview from the publisher.

Simple Solutions: Harness the Power of Passion and Simplicity to Get Results.

From the publisher:

Simple Solutions provides a unique, “here’s how we do it”; perspective on leadership. The book presents a left-brain, right-brain approach to leadership that is easy to read and understand with advice that readers can immediately put to use. The impact of the message in Simple Solutions stands out, even in a high-powered, high-performance benchmark environment such as FedEx, because it challenges many popular leadership wisdoms head-on and suggests that some of the old tried-and-true leadership guideposts may not be the right ones. The book presents the following components that are necessary for success:

  • business savvy
  • people skills
  • collaboration with peers
  • time management
  • ability to execute
  • ambition
  • leadership
  • vision
  • focus
  • determination

The Fi-Med Business Book Club

Posted by Lisa Velasquez in Fi-Med Services

Looking for ways to engage employees and get them invested in Fi-Med’s business decisions, innovation, and financial and cultural health, Fi-Med Vice President Christine Krause has formed a voluntary, in-house business book club. The club, attended by about 50% of Fi-Med staff each quarter, votes on each businessbook next on the reading list and then meets for discussion and key take-away points. Employees are paid for book club time, and Fi-Med caters lunch to the group.

Beginning this month, we’ll be posting business book club choices and discussions right here on the blog. Stay tuned!
